Heaton Eye Associates

In Tyler the kids are active, so trust us when we say we’ve seen our fair share of eye injuries.  While an eye poke is something that can unfortunately happen in everyday life, most are indeed, sports related.  An estimated 40,000 sports related eye injuries occur each which is why we want to help increase public awareness of wearing protective eyewear when participating in team sports.  The number of sports related eye injuries seems high but it could be so much lower because studies have shown 90% of eye injuries can be avoided by simply wearing proper eyewear protection.   Proper eye protection does not include “street” corrective eyewear or sun wear, which actually puts the individual more severely at risk for injury during activities.  Racquetball, basketball, and baseball are all sports that eyewear is highly recommended for, but with all sports and activities, protective eyewear use is suggested.  As the kids get older, the baseballs come faster and the elbows swing a little harder each year so it’s important to have your children wearing proper protective gear from a young age so they can grow used to it.  Parents are also suggested to set a good example by wearing eyewear when active. Specific eyewear is available for just about every activity, and the experts at Heaton Eye Associates can help to make sure you have the right style and fit.
